Tanba is a region located in the central part of Hyogo prefecture. It includes the cities of Tanba, Sasayama, Nishiwaki, Kato, Ono, and Kasai and the counties of Taka and Kanzaki. This area borders Kyoto to the northeast.
Sightseeing spots include the Sasayama Castle, The Dai-shoin, one of Japan's largest wooden buildings, the historic streets of Kawaramachi Tsumairi Shoka-gun, chosen as a traditional building group conservation area, Sake Storehouse Museum, the Horoyoi Jokagura facility of the Homei Shuzo Sake Brewery, where you can visit sake store rooms and taste the sake, and the Tanba Toji Sake Brewery Museum where you can learn about Tanba's Japanese sake brewing.
It is convenient to have a car for getting around this area. From major cities, this area is accessible by car or train. From Osaka Station to Iso Station in Tanba, it takes about 1 hour and 30 minutes if you take the JR Fukuchiyama line limited express.
