Kurashiki is the area of Okayama Prefecture centered around Kurashiki city. Kurashiki flourished as an integrated area which controlled the goods of the Edo shogunate.
Because logistics of the Edo period (1603-1868) involved using ships to transport goods, the integrated area of Kurashiki Bikan Historical Quarter built its streets along the river. Even today, visitors can enjoy the scenery as the wooden buildings and townhouses, old buildings remain. There are many attractions in the area including the Kurashiki Monogatari-kan Museum where visitors can learn about the Kurashiki Bikan Historical Quarter, Kurashiki River Boat Tour where visitors can explore the Kurashiki River by boat, and the Ohara Museum of Art, which exhibit world-famous works of famous artists.
There is also the Great Seto Bridge (Seto Ohashi Bridge), which connects Kurashiki and Kagawa Prefecture of Shikoku Island. Seto Ohashi connects the islands of the Seto Inland Sea. Take a drive while enjoying the beautiful scenery of the Seto Inland Sea.
The closest station to tourist destinations of Kurashiki, including Kurashiki Bikan Historical Quarter, is JR Kurashiki Station. Kurashiki Station is also just 20 minutes by train from Okayama Station, the center of Okayama Prefecture. The closest airport is Okayama Airport. It is a 35 minute bus ride from Okayama Airport to Kurashiki Station.
