Minami Alps Travel Guide

The Minami Alps is an area located in the southwestern part of Yamanashi prefecture.  It includes the city of Minami Alps and the counties of Nishiyatsushiro and Minamikoma.

Many mountain climbing enthusiasts visit this region because it is so close to the nearby mountainous area. There is an abundance of places to enjoy majestic natural scenery such as Mt. Kita-dake, Mt. Minobu-san, the Yashajin Toge Pass, and Lake Shibire. Besides that, we can enjoy Japanese arts and crafts such as cut paper pictures at Fujikawa Kirie Art Museum and traditional Japanese washi paper making at Nakatomi Japanese Paper Village.

In spring, the splendid shidare zakura cherry blossom at Nichirenji’s Minobu-san Kuon-ji Temple are something to see.

It is convenient to have a car for getting around this region.  This area is accessible by car, conventional railway, or bus.  If you come from Tokyo by train, you can take the JR Chuo Main line from Shinjuku Station for Kofu Station and from there take a Yamanashi Kotsu bus to Minami Alps.  It takes about 2 hours and 20 minutes.
